Things to do in Dumaguete

1. Go on a food trip

When I was in Dumaguete, the first thing I thought was to go on a food trip! Among the must-try in the city include their ever-famous silvanas (a cream-filled pastry), seafood at Kamalig Restaurant (include their tuna kebab in your list), and some street food like their yellow corn.

The famous silvanas.| A box of 10 costs PhP 125.

Sugar rush at Sans Rival. A slice of this walnut cake is only PhP48!

Sans Rival
A pastry/coffee shop in Dumaguete that you shouldn’t miss!

Address:
San Jose St., Rizal Avenue, Dumaguete City

How to get there:
This pastry center is just a few meters away from Siliman University. If you don’t want to walk, you can always ride a trike (fare: PhP 9).

Yellow corn at Siliman University for PhP 30.

Craving for grilled meat/seafood?
Check out the Kamalig Restaurant.

Kamalig Restaurant

Address:
Katada Street, Dumaguete City

Why you should check it out?
Aside from great food at reasonable prices, the Kamalig Restaurant also features local bands that will serenade you. It’s the perfect place when you’re dining out with your family or loved ones.

2. Chill out at the Rizal Boulevard at night

I’m not really into drinking and bars. If you find yourself in the same situation, then the Rizal Boulevard is a must-included list for chilling out at night. There’s a  long stretch of street food vendors, complete with tables and chairs.

Whether you’re young or young at heart, the place will take you back to your younger days – of days spent with friends, just laughing your hearts out, talking, and eating typical Filipino street food (hello to balut lovers!).

Enjoy the tranquility of the sea at the Rizal Boulevard.

Balut!

The diversity of the crowd :)

3. Visit the oldest belfry in the province

If Vigan has its Calle Crisologo, Pagudpud has its Windmills, then Dumaguete has this iconic structure: the Dumaguete belfry, the oldest one in the province. Just a few meters away from the St. Catherine of Alexandria Cathedral, the belfry is believed to be built in 1760s. Visiting it is something you shouldn’t miss while in Dumaguete City.

The oldest belfry in Dumaguete.

How to get there:
Tell the trike driver to drop you off at at the St. Catherine Cathedral (the belfry is just a few meters away from it) OR you can tell him to drop you off at the Rizal Park (it’s just across it).

Ready for Dumaguete? Here’s how to get there.
